The Doolong Flats / Ghost Hill Emerging Community Local Plan has been updated to reflect recent development activity and improved technical information, while maintaining the overall planning intent for the area.

What this means for you: This update improves mapping accuracy and future road/facility planning, and moves medium-density housing closer to the District Centre.

The Maryborough Principal Activity Centre Local Plan has been updated to simplify planning controls, reduce duplication, and better support the long-term role of Maryborough as a major centre for the region.

Key Changes include:

What this means for you: Planning rules for Maryborough’s CBD will be simpler and more consistent, with two clear precincts and updated height limits—supporting heritage, revitalisation, investment and future growth in the city centre.

The Nikenbah Emerging Community Local Plan has been updated to reflect recent development activity and improve integration with surrounding land uses and infrastructure.

What this means for you: The plan updates mapping inline with recent development, adds buffers near industry/waste uses, and includes a new active travel link between the Mary to Bay Rail Trail and the Sports Precinct.


The Pialba Principal Activity Centre Local Plan has been updated to reflect the Hervey Bay City Centre Master Plan 2021-2041 to ensure that development outcomes align with the strategic vision for the Hervey Bay City Centre, heritage buildings and associated uses.

The St Helens Emerging Community Local Plan has been updated to better reflect current approvals, manage risk, and support a mix of housing in the area.

Key Changes includes:

What this means for you: Updates to mapping and code to reflect updated hazard information (including dam safety and bushfire risk), strengthen risk management, and support a mix of housing densities to increase housing choice.

A new Local Plan Code has been introduced for Urangan South to guide future development, manage infrastructure constraints, and improve neighbourhood design outcomes.

What this means for you: The new local plan will guide how the area grows—improving road safety and neighbourhood layout, adding buffers along Boundary Road, and limiting development in drainage-constrained areas.

The Granville Emerging Community Local Plan and the Kawungan North East Emerging Community Local Plan are being removed to reflect current development that has occurred in these areas.

What this means for you: Granville and Kawungan North East are no longer planned as “emerging community” areas—local plans have been removed and zoning updated to reflect current ownership, land use intent, and development already underway.
